Something I have been wanting to try for a while is adding beautifully detailed hand embroidery to delicate lace, tulle or net. After finding a little bit of inspiration, I designed a simple spring garden cluster design.

When designing this piece I thought about the different stitches I would use to create the flowers and leaves, considering that the back needed to be neat as I would be using a sheer fabric. I picked out the lazy daisy stitch for a selection of pretty filler flowers. Using a satin stitch to fill in the roses and leaf stems, and some simple french knots.

I used a dissolvable fabric as a stabiliser for this design along with two layers of tulle. The dissolvable fabric helped to transfer my design from paper to hoop as well as add some structure to the tulle. Whilst working on this I placed the design in the middle of the hoop to make the stitching easier, I found that to keep the back neat I had to tie off the strands more than usual.

To finish off this piece I washed off the dissolvable fabric, dried it and added a third layer of tulle to fix the back. Once back in the hoop I used hot glue to stitch the tulle to the edge of the hoop. What I loved about this design is the simplicity of the flowers and tulle, it makes a delicate home decor piece, perfect for spring.
