I don't know about you but I am constantly loosing my needles, it drives my boyfriend mad! To solve this problem I created my own little case to store them in. I created this case using my Cricut Maker, however you could also cut the pieces by hand using the dimensions below and missing out the steps with the Iron-On vinyl.

You will need:

Fat Quarters - I used Tinkerbell ones by Craft Cotton Co

Felt Sheets

Ribbon approx 20cm

Cricut Iron-On Glitter Vinyl

Tools:

Cricut Maker

Cricut Fabric Grip Cutting Mat

Cricut Washable Fabric Marker

Cricut Weeding Tool

Sewing Machine

Sewing Kit (Scissors, pins etc)

To make the case without the use of a Cricut Maker, cute two pieces of fabric 17cm x 12cm and two pieces of felt 11cm x 8cm.

To make with a Cricut Maker:

Step 1:

Open Design Space and start a new project.

Step 2:

Click on Shapes, then click on Square.

ree

Step 3:

Click on Edit and unlock the padlock between the two dimensions (make sure Metric units is turned on in settings). Resize the square to have a width of 17cm and a height of 12cm.

Step 4:

Click on Cut and change the cut colour to one similar to your outer fabric colour.

ree

Step 5:

Repeat step 2 and insert another square, this time resize it to be 15cm x 10cm. Change the Cut to Draw and the colour should be turquoise. Place in the centre of the other rectangle and select both. Click on Actions and then click on Attach. This will be your drawn on seam allowance.

Step 6:

Click on Shapes again and insert a line, change from Score to Draw and the colour should be turquoise again. Place in the centre of both shapes, select all and attach again.

Step 7:

Select the attached shape, click on Actions and then click on Duplicate. Click on Layers and then click on the shape, change the colour of the rectangle only to one that is similar to your fabric inside colour.

ree

Step 8:

Click on Shapes and insert another square, change the dimensions to be 11cm x 8cm. Change the cut colour to your felt colour and then duplicate.

ree

Step 9:

Click Make It and follow the on screen instructions for cutting your fabric and felt.

ree

Step 10:

Cut the ribbon in half so that you have two 10cm lengths. Pin the two fabric pieces right sides together with the ribbon pinned in the centre of each side. Sew along the drawn lines, leave a small gap on the bottom right hand side so that you can turn the case through.

Step 11:

Trim the corners down.

ree

Step 12:

Turn the case through, use a chopstick or something similar to make the corners sharp and press well. Top stitch around the edge to close up the gap.

ree

Step 13:

Pin the two felt sheets to the centre. Turn over and sew.

Step 3:

Select both and click on Slice under Actions. Delete the sliced out pieces.

ree

Step 4:

ree

Step 5:

Step 7:

Weed out the negatives from the design.

Now we have two adorable and matching needle and scissor cases. I even sorted the needle case so that different sized needles are on different pages! The scissor case fits a pair of dressmaking, craft and embroidery scissors perfectly, these will come in handy when I take embroidery on my travels.
